Pixcell Biom™ 2Billion/ml (30ml)

A minimalist, high-concentration ferment treatment for skin that feels reactive, overworked or in need of barrier support. PURCELL Pixcell Biom™ 2Billion/mL is made with an unusually simple formula: 45% Bifida Ferment Lysate and 45% Lactobacillus Ferment Lysate, meaning 90% of the formula is made up of these two ferment-derived ingredients. Designed to be used as the first step after cleansing, its almost water-like texture gives you an extra layer of barrier-focused care without adding heaviness — particularly useful when your skin feels easily irritated, dehydrated, less resilient or overwhelmed by an active-heavy routine. This is not an exfoliating treatment, acne medication or rich repair cream. Think of it as a supportive first layer: something you add when the goal is to help your skin feel calmer, stronger and better able to tolerate the rest of your routine. It can be particularly useful alongside routines containing retinoids, exfoliating acids or acne treatments — not because it cancels out irritation, but because those routines often benefit from keeping the rest of the skincare simple and barrier-supportive. Especially suited to • Sensitive or easily irritated skin • A weakened or compromised skin barrier • Skin feeling stressed after too many active products • Dehydrated or tight-feeling skin • Blemish-prone skin that has also become sensitive • Retinoid or exfoliant routines that need more barrier support • Anyone who wants a very lightweight first-step treatment Why you'll love it • 90% ferment lysate formula with 45% Bifida + 45% Lactobacillus Ferment Lysate • Exceptionally simple formula containing only five ingredients • Designed specifically around skin-barrier support • Lightweight, water-like texture adds virtually no heaviness • Easy to fit into routines containing stronger active ingredients • Particularly useful when skin feels reactive, overworked or less resilient Texture Extremely lightweight and watery — closer to a first essence than a traditional serum. It absorbs quickly with very little residue, so it works particularly well for someone who wants barrier support but dislikes heavy or creamy serums. Good to know Despite often being described as a “probiotic” skincare treatment, the ingredient list contains Bifida Ferment Lysate and Lactobacillus Ferment Lysate. These are lysates derived from bacteria rather than live probiotic bacteria. So you don't need to think of this as putting live cultures onto your face. What matters more from a skincare perspective is that these ferment-derived ingredients are being used in a formula designed to support skin condition, comfort and barrier resilience. And the 90% concentration sounds dramatic, but it doesn't mean this is a “strong active” in the same way that 10% acid or 0.1% retinal would be. A high percentage here refers to how much of the formula consists of the two ferment lysates — not how irritating or aggressive the product is. Another useful distinction: this can support a damaged barrier, but it cannot repair one while the rest of your routine continues damaging it. If your skin is burning, peeling or suddenly reacting to everything, simplify the routine as well: gentle cleanser, this if comfortable, moisturiser and SPF. Temporarily reducing the irritating products often matters just as much as adding another barrier product.

Texture

Extremely lightweight and watery — closer to a first essence than a traditional serum.

It absorbs quickly with very little residue, so it works particularly well for someone who wants barrier support but dislikes heavy or creamy serums.

Good to know

Despite often being described as a “probiotic” skincare treatment, the ingredient list contains Bifida Ferment Lysate and Lactobacillus Ferment Lysate.

Use morning and/or evening immediately after cleansing.

Apply a few drops across the face and gently pat into the skin until absorbed.

Follow with toner if you use one, then continue with serum, moisturiser and SPF in the morning.

Because the texture is so light, you can also layer it underneath richer barrier serums or creams without making the routine feel heavy.

Tips to get the most out of it

• Use it as your first leave-on step after cleansing rather than treating it like a final serum

• If you're introducing retinal, retinol or exfoliating acids, this can form part of the simple supportive side of your routine

• Don't expect it to compensate for over-exfoliation. If your skin is becoming progressively redder, tighter or more sensitive, reduce the irritating products as well

• If your routine already contains several essences and hydrating serums, you don't necessarily need all of them alongside this — keep the layers that are actually helping your skin

• Oily and acne-prone skin can still have a compromised barrier. Barrier support does not need to mean using a thick cream at every step

• If your skin is extremely reactive, introduce any new product one at a time so you can tell what your skin actually tolerates

• You can mix a few drops into moisturiser, but applying it directly after cleansing makes the most sense if you want to use it as PURCELL's intended first-step treatment

What exactly is PURCELL Pixcell Biom™ 2Billion/mL?

It is an extremely concentrated ferment-lysate treatment built around two ingredients: Bifida Ferment Lysate and Lactobacillus Ferment Lysate.

Each makes up 45% of the formula, giving a combined concentration of 90%.

The remaining formula is very simple, making this quite different from a typical serum containing dozens of botanical extracts and actives.

-
Does it contain live probiotics?

No — the ingredient list contains Bifida Ferment Lysate and Lactobacillus Ferment Lysate rather than live probiotic cultures.

“Probiotic skincare” is commonly used as an umbrella marketing term, but in this case the ingredients are bacterial lysates.

You don't need live bacteria on your skin for this product to be useful as a barrier-supporting treatment.

-
What does “2Billion/mL” actually mean?

The name refers to PURCELL's concentration specification for its Pixcell Biom™ ferment material.

What it does not mean is that you are applying two billion living probiotic bacteria to every millilitre of skin.

For everyday skincare purposes, the more useful information is that 90% of the finished formula consists of Bifida and Lactobacillus ferment lysates.

-
Should I use it before or after toner?

Before.

PURCELL positions this as a first-step treatment, so use it directly after cleansing and follow with your toner, serum and moisturiser.

If you've already applied toner occasionally, however, you haven't ruined the product. Skincare does not need to become that rigid.

-
Is it good for a damaged skin barrier?

This is one of the main situations in which we would consider it.

The formula is deliberately focused on barrier support and is lightweight enough to sit underneath your moisturiser.

But if your barrier is genuinely compromised, adding this while continuing to over-exfoliate or use irritating actives every night is unlikely to solve the problem.

Think barrier-supportive routine, not just barrier-supportive serum.

-
Can I use it with retinol or retinal?

Yes, there is no obvious reason you need to separate these ferment lysates from retinoids.

In fact, a simple barrier-supporting product can make sense within a retinoid routine.

What it won't do is make an overly aggressive retinoid schedule suddenly tolerable. If you are burning, peeling significantly or becoming increasingly sensitive, reduce the retinoid frequency rather than simply adding more recovery products.

-
Can I use it with AHA or BHA?

Yes, but again, look at the whole routine.

There is no inherent need to keep Pixcell Biom™ away from exfoliating acids. It can sit within the hydrating/barrier-supporting portion of that routine.

If your skin is already irritated from acids, however, give it recovery time rather than continuing to exfoliate through the irritation.

-
Is it suitable for acne-prone skin?

Yes, particularly when acne-prone skin has become dehydrated or sensitised from cleansing, exfoliants or acne treatments.

It is not an acne treatment and shouldn't be expected to clear blocked pores or active breakouts by itself.

Its role is different: supporting the condition of the skin and its barrier while the appropriate acne treatment does the targeted work.

-
Will it feel heavy on oily skin?

Very unlikely.

The texture is extremely watery and lightweight, which makes this one of the easier forms of barrier-focused skincare to incorporate into oily or combination routines.

-
Does it replace moisturiser?

No.

This is a lightweight treatment layer, not an occlusive moisturiser.

If your barrier is compromised or your skin is dry, follow it with an appropriate moisturiser to help reduce water loss and provide the lipids and emollients your skin may also need.

-
How often should I use it?

It can be used morning and evening if your skin enjoys it.

Unlike retinal or exfoliating acids, you don't need a complicated schedule simply because the formula contains “90%” of its key ingredients.

That percentage describes the concentration of ferment lysates rather than the strength of an exfoliating or irritating active.

Bifida Ferment Lysate: Derived from the fermentation of one of the “good” bacteria naturally found in the body, Bifida Ferment Lysate strengthens the skin microbiome, making skin less sensitive to environmental aggressors. It also optimises skin moisture levels.

Lactobacillus Ferment Lysate: Probiotic Lactobacillus Ferment Lysate balances the natural microbiome and prevents infections from taking hold.

Bifida Ferment Lysate (45%), Lactobacillus Ferment Lysate (45%), Butylene Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Ethylhexylglycerin
