SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Azelaic Acid 10 Ampoule is a lightweight Korean treatment for breakouts, post-blemish marks, visible redness, uneven texture and excess oil.
At the centre of the formula is 10% azelaic acid, combined with two azelaic-acid derivatives — 1% Potassium Azeloyl Diglycinate and 0.5% Azelamide MEA — creating SKIN1004's 11.5% 3X Azelaic Active Formula.
Azelaic acid is particularly useful when several concerns overlap. Perhaps you still get blemishes, but you're equally frustrated by the red or brown marks they leave behind. Or your skin becomes oily and congested but is sensitive enough that constantly adding stronger exfoliating acids makes things worse.
This ampoule gives you a more targeted way to work on those concerns while panthenol, Centella, allantoin, beta-glucan and hyaluronic acid provide hydration and skin-comfort support around the active treatment.
The watery texture also makes it much easier to fit into a daily routine than heavier azelaic-acid creams and suspensions.
Especially suited to
• Blemish-prone and acne-prone skin
• Redness left around active or healing blemishes
• Brown post-breakout marks and uneven skin tone
• Oily or combination skin with excess sebum
• Congestion and uneven-looking texture
• Skin that finds aggressive exfoliation difficult to tolerate
• Anyone wanting to introduce a 10% azelaic acid treatment gradually
Why you'll love it
• 10% azelaic acid for blemishes, redness, uneven tone and texture
• 11.5% 3X Azelaic Active Formula combines azelaic acid with two derivatives
• Panthenol, Centella, allantoin and beta-glucan support skin comfort
• Lightweight hydration from glycerin and sodium hyaluronate
• Fresh, watery texture absorbs without a heavy or greasy finish
• Can be incorporated into either a morning or evening routine
Texture
A lightweight, watery ampoule that spreads easily and absorbs quickly with very little residue.
That makes it particularly useful if you have oily or combination skin, or simply dislike the thick, silicone-heavy texture of some 10% azelaic acid products.
Good to know
The 11.5% on this formula needs explaining.
It does not contain 11.5% pure azelaic acid.
SKIN1004's 3X Azelaic Active Formula is made from:
10% Azelaic Acid
1% Potassium Azeloyl Diglycinate
0.5% Azelamide MEA
The last two are azelaic-acid derivatives included alongside the 10% azelaic acid.
So when comparing this with another “10% azelaic acid” serum, compare the actual azelaic-acid concentration rather than assuming 11.5% means this automatically contains more pure azelaic acid.
Another useful distinction: post-acne marks and acne scars are not necessarily the same thing.
If a spot heals and leaves behind a flat brown, grey-brown or darker patch, this is usually post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Azelaic acid is a sensible ingredient to consider for this kind of uneven pigmentation.
If the skin has become physically indented, pitted or raised, that is structural scarring. A brightening serum cannot rebuild that structure in the same way.
And if the mark is predominantly pink or red rather than brown, inflammation and visible blood vessels may be contributing. Azelaic acid can still make sense in a redness-focused routine, but different types of post-blemish marks do not necessarily disappear at the same speed.
It is also worth knowing that much of the clinical research around azelaic acid for acne and rosacea has investigated 15–20% medicinal formulations, rather than cosmetic 10% serums.
That doesn't make 10% pointless — it simply means we shouldn't take results from stronger medical formulations and promise that this cosmetic ampoule will produce exactly the same result.
Use after cleansing and toner, before moisturiser.
For your first week, apply a pea-sized amount to the areas you want to target every other day.
If your skin remains comfortable, gradually increase the amount and frequency.
Once adjusted, apply approximately 2–3 drops across the face, avoiding the immediate eye and lip area.
Follow with a soothing moisturiser.
It can be used in the morning or evening. If using it during the day, always finish your routine with SPF.

Tips to get the most out of it
• Don't rush straight into twice-daily use simply because azelaic acid has a reputation for being relatively well tolerated. SKIN1004 itself recommends an adjustment period
• A mild temporary tingling sensation can happen with azelaic acid, particularly when you first start. Persistent burning, significant redness or worsening irritation means your skin needs less, not more
• If your skin barrier is already burning, peeling or reacting to everything, allow it to settle before introducing another active treatment
• For post-breakout marks, SPF is essential. Trying to fade pigmentation while repeatedly exposing it to UV makes your brightening routine work much harder
• If you use several acne products already, introduce this separately so you can tell whether your skin actually tolerates it
• Don't spot-treat only the darkest mark forever. Once your skin has adjusted, applying a thin layer across the areas where you regularly develop blemishes and marks can make more sense
• Azelaic acid is not an exfoliating acid in quite the same way that glycolic acid or salicylic acid is. You don't need to treat it like a weekly peel
• If your main concern is blackheads deep within oily pores, a leave-on salicylic acid may still have a more specific role. Azelaic acid makes more sense when congestion occurs alongside blemishes, redness and post-breakout marks
• Give it time. Breakouts, pigmentation and uneven texture are all concerns that should be judged over consistent use rather than after a few applications

Patch-test first! Every skin is unique—what one person tolerates beautifully may irritate another. Dab a small amount behind your ear or along the jawline and wait 24 hours before full use.
What is SKIN1004 Azelaic Acid 10 Ampoule best for?
Its strongest use case is skin dealing with several concerns at once:
Blemishes
Visible redness
Post-breakout marks
Excess sebum
Congestion
Uneven-looking texture
That combination is where azelaic acid becomes particularly useful — rather than needing a separate aggressive treatment for every concern.
-
Does it contain 10% or 11.5% azelaic acid?
It contains 10% azelaic acid.
The 11.5% figure refers to SKIN1004's complete 3X Azelaic Active Formula:
10% Azelaic Acid
1% Potassium Azeloyl Diglycinate
0.5% Azelamide MEA
So it would be misleading to describe this as an 11.5% pure azelaic acid serum.
-
Is 10% azelaic acid suitable for beginners?
It can be.
SKIN1004 specifically provides an introductory schedule for new users rather than positioning the product as experts-only.
We would still introduce it gradually.
For your first week, use a pea-sized amount on areas of concern every other day. If your skin remains comfortable, gradually increase toward normal use.
Starting slowly is usually easier than irritating your skin and then having to stop altogether.
-
Is it good for acne?
Azelaic acid has established evidence for acne, although many clinical studies use medicinal formulations containing 15–20% azelaic acid.
This SKIN1004 product is a cosmetic 10% formulation.
We would consider it particularly useful for mild blemish-prone skin or when breakouts occur alongside redness, excess oil and marks left behind by previous spots.
Persistent or moderate-to-severe acne may still require dedicated medical treatment.
-
Will it fade post-acne marks?
It can be particularly useful for flat pigmented marks remaining after blemishes.
Azelaic acid can influence pathways involved in excess pigmentation, while the formula also contains liquorice root extract.
But don't confuse pigmentation with physical scarring.
Brown flat mark = pigmentation may respond to skincare.
Indented or raised scar = structural change that a brightening ampoule cannot simply erase.
-
What about red marks after spots?
Red and brown post-blemish marks are not exactly the same thing.
Brown or grey-brown marks usually involve excess pigment.
Pink or red marks can involve lingering inflammation and visible blood vessels.
Azelaic acid is an interesting ingredient when redness and blemishes overlap, and SKIN1004 specifically positions this formula for visible redness as well as marks.
Just don't expect every type of mark to fade at exactly the same speed.
-
Does azelaic acid exfoliate the skin?
Not in exactly the same way as an AHA such as glycolic acid or a BHA such as salicylic acid.
Azelaic acid can help normalise the way skin cells shed around pores and improve uneven texture, but we wouldn't treat this as a traditional exfoliating peel.
That is one reason it can occupy a useful middle ground in blemish-focused routines.
-
Can I use it every day?
Potentially, yes.
SKIN1004 describes it as a daily ampoule, but recommends gradually building frequency during an adjustment period.
There is no benefit in forcing daily use if your skin is happier using it every other day.
Consistency that your skin tolerates is more valuable than maximum frequency.
-
Can I use azelaic acid in the morning?
Yes.
SKIN1004 specifically says the ampoule can be used during the day, provided you finish with sunscreen.
A simple morning routine could be:
Cleanser → toner if needed → Azelaic Acid Ampoule → moisturiser → SPF
-
Can I use it with niacinamide?
Yes.
There is no standard reason you need to separate azelaic acid and niacinamide.
In fact, they can make sense within the same pigmentation or blemish-focused routine.
But check how much niacinamide is already hidden across your products before adding another concentrated serum unnecessarily.
-
Can I use it with Vitamin C?
Potentially, yes.
There is no absolute skincare rule saying azelaic acid and Vitamin C cannot appear in the same routine.
If your skin is sensitive or you're introducing either product for the first time, separating them can make the routine easier:
Morning: Vitamin C → moisturiser → SPF
Evening: Azelaic Acid Ampoule → moisturiser
Once you know your skin tolerates both, you can decide whether you actually need them together.
-
Can I use it with retinol or retinal?
Potentially, yes — but tolerance matters more than theoretical compatibility.
Both can be valuable treatments, and there is no universal rule requiring them to be used on different days.
However, if you're new to either product, we would initially separate them.
For example:
Monday — Retinoid
Tuesday — Azelaic Acid
Wednesday — Recovery/hydration
Thursday — Retinoid
Friday — Azelaic Acid
Once your skin has adjusted, you can change the routine according to your tolerance.
The goal is not to fit every active into every evening.
-
Can I use it with salicylic acid or AHA exfoliants?
You can use them within the same overall routine, but that does not mean you need to layer them at the same time.
If you are treating congestion, you might use salicylic acid on selected days and azelaic acid on others.
This is particularly sensible if your skin is easily irritated.
Several individually useful actives can still become an irritating routine when piled together.
-
Does azelaic acid cause purging?
We would not automatically label new breakouts after starting this product as “purging”.
Azelaic acid can affect keratinisation and skin turnover, but persistent worsening breakouts, burning, itching or significant redness should not simply be ignored because you assume the product must be bringing everything “to the surface”.
Reduce frequency or stop if your skin is clearly unhappy.
-
Is this suitable for sensitive skin?
SKIN1004 describes the formula as low-irritation and reports completing sensitive-skin irritation testing.
It also contains panthenol, Centella, allantoin and beta-glucan alongside the azelaic-acid complex.
That said, sensitive skin is individual and azelaic acid can cause tingling or irritation.
We would introduce it gradually rather than assuming “sensitive-skin tested” means every reactive skin type can immediately tolerate daily use.
-
Can I use it if my skin barrier is damaged?
This is where we would be cautious.
The formula contains several soothing and hydrating ingredients, but 10% azelaic acid is still an active treatment.
If your skin is currently burning, peeling, extremely tight or suddenly reacting to products that normally feel fine, concentrate on restoring comfort first.
Barrier support and active treatment are not always the same job.
-
Does it help oily skin and pores?
It can make particular sense for oily or combination skin.
SKIN1004 positions the formula for excess-sebum balancing and has performed testing relating to sebum and pore-clogging.
But skincare cannot permanently close pores.
The more realistic goal is reducing excess oil and congestion so pores look clearer and less prominent.
-
What is the difference between azelaic acid and salicylic acid?
They overlap, but they are not interchangeable.
Azelaic acid makes particular sense when blemishes occur alongside redness, post-breakout pigmentation and uneven tone.
Salicylic acid is oil-soluble and particularly useful when blackheads, clogged pores and oily congestion are the dominant concern.
Some routines benefit from both — but you don't necessarily need to start both at once.

Key Ingredients Explained
Azelaic Acid 10% – The main treatment ingredient. Azelaic acid is particularly interesting because it can address several overlapping concerns including blemishes, uneven pigmentation, redness and irregular skin-cell shedding around pores. Clinical research exists for acne, pigmentation and papulopustular rosacea, although much of that research uses stronger 15–20% medicinal formulations rather than this cosmetic 10% serum.
Potassium Azeloyl Diglycinate 1% – A water-soluble derivative of azelaic acid included as part of SKIN1004's 3X Azelaic Active Formula. SKIN1004 combines it with pure azelaic acid to improve formulation stability and delivery rather than simply relying on one form.
Azelamide MEA 0.5% – The third component of the 3X Azelaic Active Formula. Together with Potassium Azeloyl Diglycinate, it brings the total azelaic-focused complex to 11.5% — while the actual pure azelaic-acid concentration remains 10%.
Panthenol – Pro-vitamin B5 and a useful supporting ingredient in an active formula. It helps attract moisture and support skin comfort and barrier function.
Centella Asiatica Extract – SKIN1004's signature botanical ingredient. Included here as a skin-conditioning and soothing component to complement the redness-focused treatment.
Allantoin – A soothing skin-conditioning ingredient that helps make the formula more comfortable around irritated or blemish-prone skin.
Beta-Glucan – A humectant and skin-conditioning ingredient that helps support hydration and comfort rather than adding another aggressive active.
Sodium Hyaluronate – A form of hyaluronic acid that helps attract water to the skin, giving this treatment lightweight hydration.
Liquorice Root Extract – A supporting soothing and brightening botanical that complements the formula's focus on uneven tone and visible marks.
Biosaccharide Gum-1 – A polysaccharide humectant and skin-conditioning ingredient that contributes additional lightweight hydration and comfort.
Ingredients may change at the manufacturer's discretion. Always check the packaging if you have a known ingredient sensitivity.
