100% authentic K‑beauty- Hand-picked by our founder
Beauty of Joseon Ground Rice and Honey Glow Mask is a creamy wash-off clay mask with kaolin, honey, ground rice hull and rice bran, plus rice wine lees extract. It gently polishes away dull surface flakes and absorbs excess oil, leaving skin soft, smooth and brighter-looking.
What it does
Kaolin and bentonite clays absorb excess oil. Finely ground rice hull and rice bran give a gentle physical exfoliation, especially when you massage the mask off with water, while honey and glycerin help keep skin from feeling tight. Rice extract and rice lees extract, a by-product of Korean rice wine making, are supporting extracts that Beauty of Joseon include for radiance. What you are really buying it for is the clay and the fine grains: an oil-absorbing, polishing weekly mask.
Why we chose it
It is a simple weekly glow step with no exfoliating acids, and Beauty of Joseon describe it as fragrance-free. It gives acid-shy skin a physical polish instead.
Best for
- Dull or rough-feeling skin
- Normal, combination or oily skin
- The look of congested pores
- Anyone who prefers a gentle scrub to exfoliating acids
Not ideal if
- You avoid bee or animal-derived ingredients: it contains honey
- Your skin is sensitive or reactive, broken or sunburnt: the grains exfoliate physically, and it contains menthyl lactate, a cooling ingredient. Biodance Bio-Collagen Real Deep Mask hydrates with no exfoliants
- You already exfoliate often: count this as one of your exfoliation nights
Key ingredients
- Kaolin and bentonite: absorb excess oil
- Rice hull powder and rice bran: gentle physical exfoliation
- Honey and honey extract: hydration and a soothed feel
- Rice lees extract and rice extract: hydration and radiance
Texture and finish
A rich, creamy clay with visible fine grains. It spreads easily and rinses off cleanly, leaving skin soft and smooth rather than tight.
Where it goes in your routine
After cleansing, on dry skin. Apply a thick, even layer, avoiding the eyes and lips, and leave it for 15 to 20 minutes. Massage gently with wet fingertips, rinse with lukewarm water, then carry on with toner and moisturiser. Beauty of Joseon suggest once a week, or whenever your skin needs a boost.
Good to know
It contains menthyl lactate, a cooling ingredient.
Quick facts: 150 ml · Kaolin, honey, rice hull · Wash-off, once a week · Fragrance-free (brand-stated) · Beauty of Joseon, made in Korea
- After cleansing, apply to dry skin, as the box directs.
- Spread a thick, even layer, keeping it away from the eyes and lips.
- Leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes (box-directed). If clay masks tend to leave your skin tight, stay at the shorter end.
- Massage gently with lukewarm water as you rinse. This is when the rice grains polish, so keep the pressure light.
- Follow with toner and moisturiser. If it stings or feels uncomfortable, rinse it off and stop using it, as the box advises.
- Once a week, as Beauty of Joseon suggest. Count it as an exfoliation night: don't use it on the same night as exfoliating acids or a retinoid.
Aqua, Kaolin, Glycerin, Honey, Propanediol, Dipropylene Glycol, Oryza Sativa Hull Powder, Isononyl Isononanoate, 1,2-Hexanediol, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Cetyl Alcohol, Polyglyceryl-3 Methylglucose Distearate, Butylene Glycol, Glyceryl Stearate, Oryza Sativa Bran, Bentonite, Palmitic Acid, Stearic Acid, Behenyl Alcohol, Cellulose, Hydroxyacetophenone, Zea Mays Starch, Ethylhexylglycerin, Xanthan Gum, Potassium Cetyl Phosphate, Oryza Sativa Lees Extract, Polyacrylate-13, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Sodium Phytate, Polyglyceryl-10 Laurate, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Sorbitan Isostearate, Oryza Sativa Extract, Honey Extract, Menthyl Lactate
Good to know
- Contains honey (bee-derived)
- Physical exfoliant (rice hull powder); no exfoliating acids
- Beauty of Joseon describe it as fragrance-free
- Contains menthyl lactate, a cooling ingredient
How exfoliating is it?
It is a physical polish, not a chemical one. Finely ground rice hull and rice bran exfoliate mainly when you massage the mask off with water, and there are no exfoliating acids. If you already use acids or a retinoid, treat it as one of your exfoliation nights rather than an extra.
Can dry skin use it?
Often, yes, as a weekly mask. The clays absorb oil, but honey and glycerin are there to stop skin feeling tight, and you follow it with moisturiser. If your skin is dry and also flaky, raw or easily irritated, a hydrating mask with no grains will be kinder.
Can sensitive skin use it?
We would not make it a first choice. Beauty of Joseon describe it as fragrance-free and it has no exfoliating acids, but the grains exfoliate physically and it contains menthyl lactate, a cooling ingredient. If your skin is reactive, broken or sunburnt, choose a hydrating mask with no exfoliants instead.
Does it have a scent?
Beauty of Joseon describe it as fragrance-free, with a natural scent from its ingredients. There is no fragrance in the ingredient list on our box.
Does it contain animal-derived ingredients?
Yes, honey and honey extract, which are bee-derived.
