  • Mornings, as the last skincare step: after moisturiser, before makeup.
  • Use two full finger-lengths for face and neck, as Beauty of Joseon recommend. The box warns that using less lowers the protection significantly.
  • Apply at least 30 minutes before you go out in strong sun, and let it settle for a minute or two before makeup.
  • Reapply at least every two hours outdoors, and after swimming, sweating or towel drying. It is not labelled water-resistant.
  • Over makeup, pat a fresh layer on rather than rubbing, so you don't disturb what is underneath.
  • If you are using retinal, exfoliating acids or working on dark marks, daily sunscreen is especially worth making consistent.

Does it leave a white cast?

It is designed to apply clear, and most of the reviews we checked report no obvious white cast. A small number mention some cast in flash photography. We have not seen enough reliable feedback across deeper skin tones to promise that it looks invisible on everyone.

Is it too shiny for oily skin?

It has a dewy finish. On oily skin, especially in warm weather, it can feel too glowy by the afternoon. If that sounds like you, Relief Sun Aqua-Fresh: Rice + B5 is the lighter version.

Does it work under makeup?

For most people, yes. Let it settle for a minute or two first. If it pills, give it longer, or use a lighter moisturiser underneath.

How much should I use?

Two full finger-lengths for face and neck. SPF is tested at a generous amount, and the NHS notes most people don't apply enough, so a thin layer gives less protection than the label says.

Do I need it every day in the UK?

The NHS says UK sun is strongest between 11am and 3pm from March to October. Daily sunscreen is also a sensible habit if you use retinoids or exfoliating acids, or you are working on dark spots. Our guide Do I need sunscreen every day in the UK? goes into detail.

Will it sting my eyes?

A few reviews mention stinging if it runs into the eyes, while many say it doesn't. The box says to avoid contact with the eyes, so stop short of the lash line. If your skin or eyes are very reactive, patch test first.
