  • For extra hydration, Haruharu suggest layering it two or three times; let each layer sink in first.

Is this a toner or an essence?

In practice it does both jobs. Haruharu call it a toner in the name, and our box calls it "The First Essence". It is the light hydrating step straight after cleansing and before serum, so you don't need a separate toner as well.

Is it suitable for sensitive skin?

Haruharu made it for sensitive skin: our box says "for Sensitive Skin" and "Free of Alcohol & Fragrance", and the list has no essential oils and no exfoliating acids. It does contain several plant extracts, such as skullcap root, pulsatilla and Sichuan pepper fruit extracts, so if your skin is very reactive, patch test first.

Can oily skin use it?

It can be a good fit for many oily skins. It is light, there are no oils in the list on our box, and it adds hydration without weight. If your skin is oily but dehydrated, it is an easy first layer.

Will it brighten dull skin?

Only in the sense that well-hydrated skin looks fresher. There is no brightening active in it. If dullness or uneven tone is your main concern, add a brightening serum after it.

Is it the same as the 150 ml toner?

Yes, as far as our boxes show: the 150 ml and 300 ml boxes print the same ingredient list in the same order, and both say "Free of Alcohol & Fragrance". The 300 ml suits you if you use cotton pads or layer it several times.
