Is it a toner or a moisturiser?

Neither, exactly. It is a milky essence that sits between the two: richer than a watery toner, lighter than a cream. Most skin will still want a moisturiser on top, especially at night; some combination or oily skin may find it enough on its own in the morning.

Does it contain live probiotics?

No. "Probiotics" is Haruharu's name for the galactomyces and bifida ferment filtrates, which are processed ferment ingredients, not live bacteria. Our box lists them at 1,000 ppm each (0.1%).

Will it suit oily skin?

It can, but it depends on your skin. Plant oils sit high in the list, which gives it the soft, milky feel. If your skin gets shiny easily, use one thin layer, or keep it for the evening.

Is it suitable for sensitive skin?

Often, but it depends on your skin. Haruharu state it is fragrance-free, and there are no essential oils, exfoliating acids or retinoids in the list. It does contain shea butter and hydrolysed wheat protein, so check those against any allergies, and patch test first if your skin is very reactive.

Can I use it while I am using retinoids or acids?

Yes. It has no actives that compete with them, and its lipids and oils make it a comfortable layer on the evenings you use them. The box says not to use it on damaged or broken skin, so pause if your skin is cracked or raw.
