  • Use as your first cleanse in the evening, or whenever you have worn makeup or sunscreen.
  • Twist the grinder clockwise to release a small amount.
  • Massage over a dry face, including over makeup, keeping it away from the eyes, as the box cautions.
  • Add a little water to turn it milky, then rinse well.

  • It contains chestnut shell extract, so skip it if you have a nut allergy. If you notice discomfort or sensitivity, stop using it, as the box advises.

Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, C13-15 Alkane, PEG-20 Glyceryl Triisostearate, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Synthetic Wax, Silica Dimethyl Silylate, Polysorbate 85, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract, Salvia Hispanica Seed Extract, Castanea Crenata (Chestnut) Shell Extract, Dipropylene Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Trihydroxystearin, Tocopheryl Acetate, Pentaerythrityl Tetra-Di-T-Butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate, Water, Butylene Glycol, Iron Oxides (CI 77499)

Good to know

  • No fragrance or essential oils listed
  • Contains chestnut shell extract (tree nut)
  • Colour from black iron oxide (CI 77499)
  • Box caution: for external use only, avoid contact with the eyes, keep out of reach of children, and stop and consult a physician if discomfort or sensitivity occurs.

Is it suitable for sensitive skin?

It is made with sensitive skin in mind: House of Hur formulated it for sensitive skin, and there is no fragrance or essential oil in the ingredient list on our box. Even so, it depends on your skin, so patch test first if you react easily.

Why is the balm so dark?

The colour comes from black iron oxide (CI 77499), a mineral pigment listed on our box. It turns milky with water and rinses away.

How is it different from the Purifying Cleansing Balm?

The two share the same base of oils, emollients and rinse-off emulsifiers. The Midnight balm uses rice, chia seed and chestnut shell extracts and is positioned for sensitive skin. The Purifying balm swaps these for fruit extracts and corn germ oil, positioned for a balanced, less oily feel.

Can I use it if I have a nut allergy?

No. It contains chestnut (Castanea crenata) shell extract. The Purifying Cleansing Balm does not list chestnut.

Can I use it to remove mascara?

Our box says to avoid contact with the eyes, so we would not use it as an eye makeup remover. Massage it over the face and keep it away from the eye area.
