Hue Calm Kintsugi Firming Serum is a milky emulsion serum with squalane, plant proteins from soy, pea and vegetables, adenosine and ceramide NP. It is a nourishing serum first: it helps dry, tired-looking skin feel softer and more cushioned, and any smoother, bouncier look builds gradually with steady use. What it doesSqualane and glycerin soften skin and help hold water in. The "firming" in the name rests on Hue Calm's "Phyto Firming Activator", a blend of plant proteins and plant extracts the brand include for elasticity. Hue Calm do not publish amounts or test results for it, so we treat firming as the brand's cosmetic description, not a measured effect. Adenosine, widely used in Korean skincare for the look of fine lines, and ceramide NP support a smoother, more comfortable surface. What customers say

5.0 ★ · 1 review
  • i’ve been layering this serum morning and night—my skin actually feels firmer and more bouncy after about two weeks. texture is kinda milky but absorbs fast and doesn’t leave a film. worth trying if your skin’s dull or dehydrated.

What it does

Squalane and glycerin soften skin and help hold water in.

Why we chose it

It is a nourishing serum step for dry, tired-looking skin that wants more than water-light hydration, and it layers easily under a cream at night. Hue Calm describe it as vegan and cruelty-free.

Best for

  • Dry or dehydrated skin that looks tired
  • Skin that looks less bouncy than it used to
  • The look of early fine lines
  • A richer serum layer before moisturiser

Not ideal if

  • You avoid fragrance or essential oils: it contains bergamot, geranium and Roman chamomile oils. Purito Wonder Releaf Centella Serum Unscented is a fragrance-free alternative
  • You have a nut allergy: it contains macadamia seed oil and shea butter
  • You are allergic to soy: it contains soy protein and soybean extract

Key ingredients

  • Squalane: softness and barrier comfort
  • Hydrolyzed soy, pea and vegetable proteins: the plant proteins in the brand's firming blend
  • Adenosine: the look of fine lines
  • Ceramide NP and phytosterols: help keep moisture in
  • Beta-glucan, betaine and glycerin: hydration

Texture and finish

A light, milky emulsion serum that spreads easily. Retailers describe an earthy, herbal scent, which comes from its essential oils.

Where it goes in your routine

After toner, before moisturiser, morning and evening. Spread a small amount over the face and gently pat until absorbed; add a second thin coat for more nourishment. In the morning, finish with sunscreen.

What to expect

Skin should feel softer and more comfortable straight away. Any change in the look of firmness or fine lines is gradual and depends on steady daily use.

Good to know

  • Contains bergamot, geranium and Roman chamomile oils (essential oils)
  • Contains limonene, linalool, citronellol and geraniol
  • Contains macadamia seed oil and shea butter (nut-derived)
  • Hue Calm describe it as vegan and cruelty-free

Will it firm my skin?

Do not buy it expecting a visible lift. "Firming" is Hue Calm's description of their plant protein blend, and they do not publish amounts or test results for it. What you can expect is softer, more cushioned skin, with adenosine there for the look of fine lines over time.

How much of the firming blend is in it?

Hue Calm do not say. The only amount printed on our box is the soybean seed extract, at 1,000 ppm, which is 0.1% of the formula. The soy, pea and vegetable proteins have no stated amount.

Is it suitable for sensitive skin?

It depends on your skin. There is no retinoid or exfoliating acid in it, but it does contain bergamot, geranium and Roman chamomile oils, plus limonene, citronellol, linalool and geraniol. If essential oils usually bother you, patch test first, or choose Purito Wonder Releaf Centella Serum Unscented, which is fragrance-free.

Can oily skin use it?

It depends on your skin. It is a light, milky emulsion, so oily skin that is also dehydrated often gets on with one thin layer. It contains squalane, macadamia oil and shea butter, so if your skin dislikes any emollient feel, use it at night only or choose a water-light serum.

Is it safe if I have a nut or soy allergy?

No. It contains macadamia seed oil and shea butter (nut-derived), and soy protein and soybean extract.

Can I use it alongside retinoids or exfoliating acids?

Yes, it contains no retinoid or exfoliating acids, so it does not add another active to your routine. If your skin is already irritated from actives, the essential oils are worth keeping in mind.
