These calming pads are my go-to after any red or irritated day—like after using a BHA or clay mask. they stick nicely, feel cool, and actually hydrate. not scented or irritating, just makes my skin chill out fast. love that the big size covers under eyes and cheeks easily.

SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Quick Calming Pad is a jar of 70 pads soaked in a simple essence of Madagascar centella, panthenol and sodium hyaluronate. Rest a pad on warm, stressed-looking areas for a few minutes, or swipe one on as a quick toner, to calm and hydrate.
What it does
Centella asiatica extract helps soothe skin that feels irritated or hot. Panthenol (pro-vitamin B5) and sodium hyaluronate add a light layer of hydration. The list has only ten ingredients, with no fragrance, essential oils or exfoliating acids, and the box states that a skin irritation test has been completed.
Why we chose it
We chose it as a quick calming and hydrating step, not an exfoliating pad: the triple-layered, crescent-shaped pads sit neatly around the nose, and the box directs 3 to 5 minutes on the skin. It pairs naturally with SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Ampoule, which also has a very short ingredient list.
Best for
- Skin that looks red or feels warm and stressed
- Sensitive or easily irritated skin
- Calming skin after sun, travel or a strong active
- Dehydrated skin that wants a light top-up
Not ideal if
- You want exfoliating pads: these contain no exfoliating acids (citric acid is only there to set the pH)
- Your skin is very dry: the essence is light, so follow with a richer moisturiser
Key ingredients
- Centella asiatica extract: soothes skin that feels irritated
- Panthenol (pro-vitamin B5): comfort and hydration
- Sodium hyaluronate: draws water into the skin
- Xanthan gum: gives the essence body so the pads cling
Texture and finish
Triple-layered pads soaked in a watery essence that absorbs quickly without stickiness.
Where it goes in your routine
After cleansing, before serum and moisturiser, morning or evening. Lift out a pad with the tweezers in the jar and lay it on your cheeks, forehead or any area that needs calming for 3 to 5 minutes, then remove it and pat in the leftover essence, as the box directs. On busier days you can wipe one over the face as a toner instead; SKIN1004 sell it as a toner pad, although the box directions are for resting it on the skin.
What to expect
Skin feels calmer and more hydrated straight away. It is a comfort step, not a treatment.
Quick facts: 70 pads · 10 ingredients · No fragrance listed · AM or PM · SKIN1004, made in Korea
- Use after cleansing, morning or evening, before serum and moisturiser.
- Lift out one pad with the tweezers, then close the lid tightly. The box suggests keeping the tweezers on top of the inside cover.
- Rest it on your cheeks, forehead or any area that needs calming for 3 to 5 minutes, as the box directs.
- Remove it and pat the leftover essence into the skin.
- Short on time? Wipe a pad over the face as a quick toner step instead.
- Keep it away from the eyes and patch test first if your skin is very reactive; stop using it if irritation occurs, as the box cautions.
Water, 1,2-Hexanediol, Butylene Glycol, Centella Asiatica Extract, Panthenol, Xanthan Gum, Sodium Hyaluronate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Disodium EDTA, Citric Acid
Good to know
- Ten ingredients in total
- No fragrance and no essential oils in the listed ingredients
- No exfoliating acids; citric acid only adjusts the pH
- No retinoid
- Skin irritation test completed, as stated on the box
Do these pads exfoliate?
No. There are no exfoliating acids in the list on our box. The citric acid is there to adjust the pH, not to exfoliate. If you want exfoliating pads, these are not the ones.
Are they suitable for sensitive skin?
It depends on your skin, but this is the kind of formula we choose for it: ten ingredients, no fragrance, no essential oils, no exfoliating acids and no retinoid, and the box states that a skin irritation test has been completed. Patch test first if your skin reacts easily.
Is it a mask or a toner pad?
Both. The box directs resting a pad on the skin for 3 to 5 minutes, like a mini mask, then patting in the leftover essence. On busier days you can wipe one over the face as a toner instead.
Can I use them on evenings I use retinal or exfoliating acids?
Yes. They have no acids or retinoid of their own, so they work as a calming, hydrating layer after cleansing on those evenings. If your skin feels sore or stays red, pause the active rather than relying on the pads.
Will they be moisturising enough for dry skin?
Not on their own. The essence is light, so follow with a moisturiser; if your skin is very dry, choose a richer one.
