This cream is amazing! it soothes my redness and helps my skin to calm down. I really like the cream/gel texture and it works well under makeup. Definitely reccomend.
Anna
Etude SoonJung 2x Barrier Intensive Cream is a fragrance-free moisturiser built around panthenol and madecassoside, a calming compound from centella. It helps dry, tight or easily irritated skin feel comfortable again and supports a healthy-looking skin barrier, with a soft, hydrated finish.
What it does
Panthenol (pro-vitamin B5) draws water into the skin and helps it feel soothed and less dry. Madecassoside helps calm the look of irritation. Sunflower seed oil, caprylic/capric triglyceride and a hardened vegetable oil cushion the skin and slow water loss, so it stays comfortable for longer.
Why we chose it
It is a short formula of 21 ingredients, and Etude list it as free of fragrance, parabens, mineral oil and animal-derived ingredients. It pairs naturally with SoonJung pH 6.5 Whip Cleanser from the same range.
Best for
- Sensitive or easily irritated skin
- Dry skin that feels tight
- Skin that feels stressed after retinoids or exfoliating acids
- A calm, simple barrier-first routine
- Anyone avoiding fragrance
Not ideal if
- You want ceramides in your moisturiser: none are listed here, so look at Dr.Jart+ Ceramidin Skin Barrier Moisturizing Cream
- Your skin is very oily and prefers a gel: this is a cream
- You want a targeted treatment for dark spots or lines: it has no such active
Key ingredients
- Panthenol (pro-vitamin B5): hydration and comfort
- Madecassoside: calms the look of irritation
- Sunflower seed oil and caprylic/capric triglyceride: softness and less water loss
- Green tea leaf extract and tocopherol (vitamin E): antioxidant support
Texture and finish
A soft cream that Etude say spreads smoothly and absorbs quickly, leaving skin feeling soft and hydrated rather than greasy.
Where it goes in your routine
The last skincare step, morning and evening: after toner and serum. Use a pearl-size amount, as the box directs: dispense it onto the back of your hand, spread it over your face and press it in. In the morning, follow with sunscreen.
What to expect
Skin should feel softer and more comfortable from the first use. A calmer, more resilient feel builds with steady daily use and a gentle routine.
Quick facts: 60 ml · Panthenol and madecassoside · Fragrance-free · AM and PM · Etude, made in Korea
- Use as the last skincare step, morning and evening, after toner and serum.
- Dispense a pearl-size amount onto the back of your hand, as the box directs, then spread it over your face.
- Press it in steadily until absorbed; this is the box's own technique.
- On nights you use a retinoid or exfoliating acid, apply it afterwards as your moisturiser.
- In the morning, follow with sunscreen.
- Patch test first if your skin is very reactive, and stop if irritation or a rash appears, as the box advises.
Water, Propanediol, Pentaerythrityl Tetraethylhexanoate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Polyglyceryl-3 Methylglucose Distearate, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Cetearyl Alcohol, Panthenol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Carbomer, Xanthan Gum, Glyceryl Caprylate, Tromethamine, Ethylhexylglycerin, Disodium EDTA, Madecassoside, Lecithin, Butylene Glycol, Tocopherol, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract
Good to know
- Fragrance-free (Etude state it)
- Etude list it as free of animal-derived ingredients
- No retinoid and no exfoliating acids
- Box caution: for external use only, avoid contact with the eyes, keep out of reach of children, and stop if signs of irritation or a rash appear.
Can oily skin use it?
It depends on your skin. If your skin is oily but feels tight, sensitised or dehydrated, for example while using retinoids or acids, a simple fragrance-free cream like this can suit it, especially at night. If your skin is very oily and you prefer a gel, it will probably feel too rich, which is why we do not list it for oily skin.
Does it contain ceramides?
No ceramides are listed. Its comfort comes from panthenol and madecassoside with sunflower seed oil and other emollients. If you specifically want ceramides, look at Dr.Jart+ Ceramidin Skin Barrier Moisturizing Cream.
Is it fragrance-free?
Yes. There is no fragrance or essential oil in the ingredient list on our box, and Etude state it is fragrance-free.
Can I use it with retinoids or exfoliating acids?
Yes, as the moisturiser step afterwards. It has no retinoid or exfoliating acid of its own, which is why we like it for skin that feels stressed by those actives.
Is it rich enough for dry skin?
For dry, tight skin, usually yes: the box describes it as the last step for deeper moisture, and it combines panthenol with plant oils. If your skin is very dry, use it over a hydrating toner or serum.
