  • Use in the evening as your first cleanse, or whenever you have worn makeup or sunscreen.
  • Twist the grinder clockwise to release a small amount onto dry hands.
  • Massage over a dry face until makeup and sunscreen dissolve, keeping it away from the eyes, as the box cautions.
  • Add a little water to turn it milky, then rinse well.
  • If you have worn heavier makeup or want a very clean finish, follow with a gentle water-based cleanser.
  • If you notice discomfort or sensitivity, stop using it, as the box advises.

Good to know

  • No fragrance or essential oils in the listed ingredients
  • Contains castor, sunflower and corn germ oils
  • Contains fruit extracts, including strawberry, pomegranate and cranberry
  • No retinoid and no exfoliating acids
  • Box caution: for external use only, avoid contact with the eyes, keep out of reach of children, and stop and consult a physician if discomfort or sensitivity occurs.

How is it different from the Midnight Soothing Cleansing Balm?

The two share the same base of oils, emollients and rinse-off emulsifiers. The Purifying balm adds fruit extracts (including strawberry, acerola and sea buckthorn) and corn germ oil, which House of Hur position for a balanced, less oily feel. The Midnight balm uses rice, chia seed and chestnut shell extracts and is positioned for sensitive skin.

Can oily skin use it?

Usually, yes. It turns into a milk with water and rinses away, and House of Hur say it helps skin feel balanced rather than oily. If you are prone to congestion or prefer a very clean finish, follow with a gentle water-based cleanser.

Can I use it to remove eye makeup?

Our box says to avoid contact with the eyes, so we would not use it as an eye makeup remover. Massage it over the face and keep it away from the eye area.

Does it contain fragrance?

No fragrance or essential oil appears in the ingredient list on our box. It does contain several fruit extracts, so skip it if you know you react to those.

Do I need a second cleanser?

Not always. The balm emulsifies with water and is designed to rinse away. If you have worn heavier makeup, water-resistant sunscreen or prefer a very clean finish, follow with a gentle water-based cleanser. If your skin feels clean and comfortable after rinsing, especially if it is dry or sensitive, you can stop there.
