SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Cream is a lightweight-but-nourishing Korean moisturiser for skin that feels dry, uncomfortable, easily irritated or in need of more softness without an especially heavy finish.
The formula combines Centella Asiatica with TECA — a concentrated blend of Madecassoside, Asiaticoside, Madecassic Acid and Asiatic Acid — alongside panthenol, squalane, shea butter, macadamia oil, meadowfoam oil and ceramide NP. SKIN1004 designed it to soothe while creating a moisture-sealing layer that helps skin stay soft and comfortable.
What makes this cream useful is the balance between moisture and texture. It contains richer emollients and oils, but SKIN1004 uses an oil-in-water-gel structure so it spreads more lightly than you might expect from the ingredient list.
That makes it particularly useful when a very light gel cream is no longer quite enough, but you still don't want the dense or occlusive feel of a traditional barrier balm.
It also works well as the final moisturising step around routines containing drying or potentially irritating actives — provided your skin actually tolerates the formula.
Especially suited to
• Normal to dry skin
• Dehydrated skin that needs more than a gel moisturiser
• Skin that feels tight or uncomfortable after cleansing
• Redness and easily unsettled-looking skin
• Skin lacking softness and bounce
• Retinol, retinal or exfoliating routines needing a more nourishing final step
• Anyone wanting a richer Centella moisturiser without a very heavy finish
Why you'll love it
• Centella + TECA complex supports calmer, more comfortable-looking skin
• Panthenol helps attract and retain moisture
• Squalane, shea butter and plant oils soften and nourish the skin
• Ceramide NP and fatty acids complement its barrier-supportive formula
• Richer than SKIN1004 Centella Soothing Cream without feeling like a heavy balm
• Designed as the final moisture-sealing step of your routine
Texture
A smooth, softly rich cream that feels more nourishing than a gel moisturiser but still spreads easily and settles without an excessively greasy finish.
SKIN1004 describes its texture using oil-in-water-gel technology: water surrounds the oil components of the formula, helping provide both hydration and emollience while keeping the finish relatively lightweight.
Good to know
This is not the same product as SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Soothing Cream.
The names are confusingly similar.
The easiest way to choose is:
Centella Cream
Richer and more nourishing. Contains TECA, panthenol, squalane, shea butter and several plant oils. Better when skin needs softness, comfort and more moisture-sealing care.
Centella Soothing Cream
Lighter gel-cream. Built around Centella, trehalose, sodium hyaluronate, ceramide NP and cholesterol. Better when you want calming hydration with a fresher, less rich texture.
Another useful thing to know is what TECA actually means.
It isn't a completely separate miracle ingredient. TECA refers to four purified Centella Asiatica components:
Madecassoside
Asiaticoside
Madecassic Acid
Asiatic Acid
SKIN1004 uses these alongside Centella extract to give the formula a more targeted Centella-derived soothing complex.
And although this is often positioned toward sensitive-looking skin, the current formula contains lavender oil, orange oil, linalool and hexyl cinnamal.
That does not automatically make the cream irritating, but it does mean we wouldn't describe it as fragrance-free or automatically assume it is the best moisturiser for someone who already knows their skin reacts badly to fragrant essential oils.
Use as the final moisturising step of your morning and/or evening routine.
After cleansing and applying toner, ampoule or serum, smooth an appropriate amount over the face and gently press into the skin until absorbed.
In the morning, follow with SPF.
If your skin is combination, you can also use a slightly smaller amount through oilier areas and more around the cheeks or wherever your skin tends to become dry.

Tips to get the most out of it
• Use this after your watery hydrating products — moisturiser is there partly to help keep that hydration from disappearing too quickly
• If your skin feels tight a few minutes after applying a light gel cream, moving to a slightly richer moisturiser like this can make more sense than adding another three hydrating serums
• Dry skin can apply a slightly more generous layer at night, while combination skin may prefer a thinner layer through the T-zone
• If you use retinal, retinol or exfoliating acids, a nourishing moisturiser can make the overall routine easier to tolerate — but it cannot make an overly aggressive active schedule harmless
• If your skin is actually burning, peeling heavily or suddenly reacting to everything, simplify your routine rather than continuing all your actives and expecting Centella to cancel out the irritation
• There is no need to wait several minutes after your serum. Once the previous layer has settled comfortably, apply your cream
• Don't assume “Centella” means every Centella product will feel the same. This cream contains oils and shea butter and is noticeably more nourishing than SKIN1004's Centella Soothing Cream
• If your skin is very fragrance-reactive, remember that the current formula contains lavender and orange essential oils

Patch-test first! Every skin is unique—what one person tolerates beautifully may irritate another. Dab a small amount behind your ear or along the jawline and wait 24 hours before full use.
What is SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Cream best for?
It makes the most sense when skin needs soothing + moisture + softness rather than hydration alone.
We would particularly consider it for normal to dry skin, dehydration, tightness and skin that feels less comfortable after cleansing or active treatments.
SKIN1004 positions the cream specifically around soothing and hydration.
-
What is the difference between SKIN1004 Centella Cream and Centella Soothing Cream?
They are different moisturisers.
Choose Centella Cream if:
Your skin is normal to dry, feels tight or needs a more nourishing moisturiser. It contains TECA, panthenol, squalane, shea butter and several plant oils.
Choose Centella Soothing Cream if:
You prefer a lighter gel texture or want refreshing hydration with Centella, trehalose, sodium hyaluronate, ceramide NP and cholesterol.
In simple terms:
Centella Cream = more nourishment
Centella Soothing Cream = lighter hydration
-
What is TECA?
TECA is a concentrated mixture of four characteristic components found in Centella Asiatica:
Madecassoside
Asiaticoside
Madecassic Acid
Asiatic Acid
SKIN1004 includes all four in this cream alongside Centella Asiatica extract.
Think of it as a more targeted way of incorporating Centella-derived compounds rather than a completely unrelated active ingredient.
-
How much panthenol does it contain?
SKIN1004 currently states that the formula contains 1,500 ppm panthenol, which is equivalent to approximately 0.15%.
Panthenol is a humectant and skin-conditioning ingredient that helps attract and retain moisture.
We wouldn't exaggerate that into calling this a “high-dose B5 cream” — the benefit comes from the complete moisturising formula rather than panthenol alone.
-
Is SKIN1004 Centella Cream good for dry skin?
Yes, particularly if you want something more nourishing than a gel cream without moving to an extremely thick balm.
The formula contains shea butter, squalane and several plant oils alongside glycerin and other humectants.
Very dry skin may still prefer something richer during winter or may need an additional occlusive layer.
-
Can oily skin use it?
Technically, yes — skin type does not make an ingredient automatically unsuitable.
But this wouldn't be our first SKIN1004 moisturiser recommendation for someone whose main concern is oiliness.
The formula contains shea butter, macadamia oil, meadowfoam oil, olive oil and squalane, so someone who prefers very light moisturisers may be happier with the Centella Soothing Cream instead.
-
Is it suitable for sensitive skin?
SKIN1004 specifically positions the product toward sensitive-looking skin and includes Centella, TECA and panthenol.
However, the current formula also contains lavender oil, orange oil, linalool and hexyl cinnamal.
Many people will tolerate those without issue, but if you already know your skin reacts to essential oils or fragrance components, we would choose a simpler fragrance-free moisturiser instead.
-
Is it fragrance-free?
No.
The current ingredient list contains lavender oil and orange oil, as well as fragrance components including linalool and hexyl cinnamal.
It would therefore be inaccurate to describe this particular cream as fragrance-free.
-
Is it good for redness?
It can make sense when visible redness is accompanied by dryness or general skin discomfort because the formula is built around Centella-derived ingredients and moisturising support.
However, persistent facial redness has many possible causes.
If you have ongoing flushing, burning or rosacea-like symptoms, a moisturiser can support comfort but isn't a diagnosis or treatment for the underlying condition.
-
Is this a barrier repair cream?
We would call it barrier-supportive rather than a dedicated barrier-repair treatment.
The formula contains ceramide NP, squalane, hydrogenated lecithin, fatty acids, shea butter and other emollients that make sense within a moisturising barrier-support routine.
However, if your barrier is severely compromised, we would normally prioritise a very simple, fragrance-free moisturiser and temporarily reduce irritating actives.
-
Can I use it with retinol or retinal?
Yes.
There is no ingredient conflict requiring you to separate this moisturiser from retinoids.
In fact, the richer texture can make it particularly useful as your final step on retinoid nights.
A simple routine could be:
Cleanser → hydrating serum if wanted → retinol/retinal → Centella Cream
If your skin is sensitive to retinoids, you can also use moisturiser before and after the retinoid as a buffering “sandwich”.
-
Can I use it with azelaic acid?
Yes.
The Centella Cream can simply be your moisturising step after azelaic acid.
For example:
Cleanser → toner if needed → azelaic acid → Centella Cream
If the azelaic acid causes persistent burning or worsening irritation, however, don't assume adding more moisturiser will solve it — reduce the active frequency as well.
-
Can I use it morning and night?
Yes.
It can be used twice daily if the texture suits your skin.
Dry skin may enjoy it morning and evening, while combination skin might use something lighter during the day and reserve this for night.
In the morning, always follow with sunscreen.
-
Does it replace a serum?
It can, depending on your skin.
You do not need a toner, essence, serum, ampoule and cream simply because Korean skincare offers all of those categories.
If your skin is comfortable with cleanser → Centella Cream → SPF in the morning, that is already a perfectly valid routine.
Add additional treatments because they solve a specific problem — not simply because there is another step available.

Key Ingredients Explained
Centella Asiatica + TECA – The Centella-focused part of the formula. TECA includes Madecassoside, Asiaticoside, Madecassic Acid and Asiatic Acid and is used here to support calmer, more comfortable-looking skin.
Panthenol (1,500 ppm) – Also known as pro-vitamin B5. A humectant and conditioning ingredient that helps attract and retain moisture. At 1,500 ppm, the concentration is approximately 0.15%.
Squalane – A lightweight emollient that helps soften the skin and reduce the dry, tight feeling associated with moisture loss.
Shea Butter – A richer emollient that contributes nourishment and softness, helping explain why this cream feels more substantial than the Centella Soothing Cream.
Macadamia, Meadowfoam & Olive Oils – Plant-derived emollients rich in fatty components that help smooth the skin and give the cream its more nourishing character.
Niacinamide – Appears relatively high in the ingredient list. Vitamin B3 supports barrier function and can also contribute to more even-looking skin over time.
Ceramide NP – A lipid related to components naturally found within the skin barrier. Here it complements the formula's moisturising and barrier-supportive ingredients.
Hydrogenated Lecithin + Linoleic/Linolenic Acids – Lipid-based ingredients that help condition the skin and complement the ceramide and emollient portion of the formula.
Trehalose, Betaine & Sodium Hyaluronate – Humectant ingredients that help attract and retain water, giving the cream hydration as well as oil-based softness.
Adenosine – A skin-conditioning ingredient commonly used in Korean skincare formulas aimed at maintaining smoother, more elastic-looking skin.
Liquorice Root & Chamomile Extracts – Supporting botanical ingredients included for skin-conditioning and soothing care.
Lavender Oil + Orange Oil – Aromatic essential oils that contribute scent to the formula. They are worth noting if you know your skin reacts to fragrance or essential oils.
Linalool + Hexyl Cinnamal – Fragrance components that can matter for fragrance-sensitive skin.
Ingredients may change at the manufacturer's discretion. Always check the packaging if you have a known ingredient sensitivity.
