Does it contain essential oils?

Yes. Our box lists sage, mugwort (artemisia vulgaris) and basil oils, which give it a herbal scent. If you avoid essential oils, this is not the oil cleanser we would choose for you.

Is it suitable for sensitive skin?

It depends on your skin. It is a rinse-off first cleanse, and Beauty of Joseon describe it as alcohol-free and suitable for most skin types, but it contains sage, mugwort and basil oils. If your skin is sensitive, patch test on your jaw for a few days before using it on your whole face. If essential oils tend to bother you, Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Moisture Deep Cleansing Oil lists none, though it contains macadamia oil.

Can oily skin use it?

Usually, yes. Oil dissolves sebum, sunscreen and makeup well, and this one emulsifies with water and rinses away rather than staying on the skin. Rinse thoroughly, and stop if it seems to leave you more congested.

I have a nut or soy allergy. Can I use it?

No. It contains hazelnut seed oil and hydrogenated coconut oil, and soybean oil is the first ingredient.

Do I need a second cleanser after it?

Yes. The box directs a foam cleanser afterwards. The oil lifts makeup, sunscreen and oily build-up; the second cleanser takes away what is left.

Should I use it in the morning too?

Beauty of Joseon suggest morning and night. It is most useful in the evening, when there is sunscreen and makeup to remove. In the morning, your water-based cleanser alone may be enough.
