This is the mineral sunscreen for people who hate mineral sunscreens. You know the ones — thick, pasty, ghost-face inducing. This isn't that.
Koolsol uses a non-nano zinc oxide formula that's been engineered to blend seamlessly into all skin tones . The texture is lightweight and fluid — more like a serum than a traditional mineral SPF. It leaves a natural, dewy glow, not a chalky mask .
It's one of the few mineral sunscreens that has both FDA OTC registration and reef-safe certification . And unlike many Korean sunscreens that had to leave the US market due to stricter regulations, Koolsol was specifically formulated to meet FDA standards .

How it works
-
Who it's for
✔️ Anyone who wants mineral protection WITHOUT the white cast
✔️ Sensitive skin — zinc oxide is one of the most non-irritating sunscreen ingredients available
✔️ Acne-prone skin — non-comedogenic, won't clog pores
✔️ All skin tones — truly invisible finish (reviewers confirm this)
✔️ Reef-conscious shoppers — zinc oxide is reef-safe (non-nano)
✔️ Anyone who's given up on mineral sunscreens because they're too thick or pasty
✔️ Daily wear — lightweight enough for everyday use, under makeup or alone
-
Texture & feel
Ultra-lightweight, fluid serum texture. Spreads easily, absorbs quickly. Leaves a radiant, dewy finish — not greasy, not matte. No heaviness, no stickiness, no pilling under makeup .
-
A few honest notes
-
The smell — Multiple reviewers note this sunscreen has a distinct scent. Some describe it as "medicinal," "herbal," or "like wet dog" (in harsher reviews) . The smell does fade after application, but if you're extremely sensitive to scents, this may not be for you- personally I like it.
-
No white cast — but with caveats — Most reviewers confirm there's minimal to no white cast, especially compared to traditional mineral sunscreens . However, some users with darker skin tones noted a slight initial whiteness that fades as it absorbs. For best results, apply in thin layers and let it fully dry
-
Takes a moment to absorb — Give it 1-2 minutes to fully settle before applying makeup or going outside
-
FDA OTC registered — This is a significant differentiator. Many Korean sunscreens don't meet FDA requirements, so they can't be sold in the US as sunscreens. Koolsol is fully compliant
-
Reef safe — Zinc oxide is considered reef-safe, especially in non-nano form, which this uses
Where it fits in your routine
The final step of your morning routine. After moisturiser, before makeup.
-
How to use
- Shake well before use
- Apply generously to face and neck as the last step of your skincare routine
- Spread evenly and pat gently for better absorption
- Allow 1-2 minutes to fully absorb before applying makeup
- Reapply every 2-3 hours if outdoors or near windows
-
Pro tips for best results
- Apply in thin layers — For mineral sunscreens, applying two thin layers often gives better coverage and less white cast than one thick layer
- Pat, don't rub — Rubbing can disturb the even distribution and create patchiness. Patting helps it settle uniformly
- Use enough — Don't skimp. For face and neck, use a generous amount (about 2-3 pumps or a nickel-sized amount)
- Let it dry before makeup — Wait 1-2 minutes for the sunscreen to fully set. This prevents pilling and ensures even coverage
- Works well under makeup — Most reviewers confirm it layers beautifully under foundation
- Reapply over makeup — For reapplication during the day, pat gently over makeup rather than rubbing
-
What not to do
- Don't forget your neck, ears, and the back of your hands
- Don't rely on SPF in your foundation — you'd need 15x the normal amount to get the stated protection
- Don't store in direct sunlight or heat — mineral sunscreens degrade slower than chemical ones, but still best to keep in a cool place

A note on patch testing
Before using this sunscreen on your full face, patch test first. Apply a small amount behind your ear or along your jawline. Wait 24-48 hours. If you notice any redness, itching, burning, or irritation, do not use it on your face.
This is especially important if you have very sensitive skin, are prone to reactions, or have reacted to zinc oxide products before.
A patch test takes 30 seconds. Dealing with a reaction takes weeks. Worth it.
