i love this serum! really light weight, not heave at all to the skin! i use it daily and it brightes up the skin. I use it right after my retinol serum.

This serum is super lightweight—absorbs fast and doesn’t feel sticky at all. my skin feels calmer and brighter after a week or so, especially in my T‑zone. love that it’s clean and gentle enough for sensitive skin

Mary&May Niacinamide + Chaenomeles Sinensis Serum is a short, nine-ingredient serum that pairs niacinamide (2%, as Mary&May state) with chaenomeles sinensis (Chinese quince) fruit extract. It helps dull, uneven-looking skin look brighter, helps balance oil and supports a fresh, clear glow. Mary&May describe it as fragrance-free.
What it does
Niacinamide helps even the look of dark spots, balances oil and supports the barrier; Mary&May say it works by limiting the transfer of pigment to the skin's surface. Mary&May describe the quince fruit extract as rich in vitamin C and flavonoids, for smoother, more radiant-looking skin; on our box it is listed eighth of nine ingredients, so we choose this serum for the niacinamide, with the quince as a supporting extra. Glycereth-26 adds light hydration.
Why we chose it
With only nine ingredients and 2% niacinamide, as Mary&May state, it is an easy first step for dull, uneven-looking skin, and a good fit for anyone who prefers a lower niacinamide strength.
Best for
- Dull or tired-looking skin
- Uneven tone and the look of dark spots
- Oily or combination skin that wants balance
- Marks left behind after breakouts
- Anyone who wants a short ingredient list
Not ideal if
- Your skin is very dry and wants a hydrating serum: choose Ma:nyo Bifida Biome Complex Ampoule, or follow this with a richer moisturiser
- You want a stronger dark-spot serum: Anua Niacinamide 10 + TXA 4 Serum has 10% niacinamide and tranexamic acid
- You already use a high-strength niacinamide serum: you do not need two
Key ingredients
- Chaenomeles sinensis (quince) fruit extract: Mary&May describe it as rich in vitamin C and flavonoids, for radiance and softness
- Niacinamide (2%, as Mary&May state): tone, oil balance and barrier support
- Glycereth-26: light hydration
- Arginine and carbomer: give the serum its texture and balance
Texture and finish
A light serum that absorbs quickly and layers easily under moisturiser and sunscreen.
Where it goes in your routine
After cleansing and toner, before moisturiser, morning and evening. Smooth a moderate amount over the face and neck until absorbed, as the box directs. In the morning, finish with sunscreen.
What to expect
Skin feels fresh and comfortable straight away. Brightness and a more even-looking tone build gradually with daily use and daily sunscreen.
Quick facts: 30 ml · Niacinamide 2% (Mary&May) · 9 ingredients · Fragrance-free (Mary&May) · AM and PM · Mary&May, Korean brand
- Use after cleansing and toner, morning and evening, as the box directs.
- Smooth a moderate amount over the face and neck and let it absorb.
- Follow with moisturiser, and sunscreen in the morning: daily sunscreen matters if you are working on uneven tone.
- If you already use another niacinamide serum, choose one rather than layering both.
- Patch test first if your skin is sensitive.
Aqua (Water), Glycereth-26, Niacinamide, 1,2-Hexanediol, Arginine, Carbomer, Ethylhexylglycerin, Chaenomeles Sinensis Fruit Extract, Caprylyl Glycol
Good to know
- Mary&May describe it as fragrance-free
- No essential oils and no exfoliating acids listed
- Mary&May state it is not tested on animals
- Only 9 ingredients
- The box states the product does not contain hydroquinone or mercury
- Box caution (Polish, translated): if unusual symptoms or side effects such as red spots, swelling or itching appear during or after use, including after direct sunlight, consult a dermatologist or cosmetologist. Do not apply to wounds. Keep out of reach of children and protect from sunlight.
Is it strong enough for dark spots?
It is a lighter option. Mary&May state 2% niacinamide, which suits a first step for dull, uneven-looking skin. If you want a stronger dark-spot serum, Anua Niacinamide 10 + TXA 4 Serum has 10% niacinamide plus tranexamic acid.
Is it mostly quince extract?
Not the version we sell. Mary&May's own page describes a quince-first formula, but our box lists water first and the quince extract eighth of nine ingredients. We go by our box, so we choose it for the niacinamide, with the quince as a supporting extra.
Will it help with oily skin?
It can help skin look more balanced: Mary&May say the niacinamide helps regulate sebum. It is not a mattifying product, so if you get very shiny you may still want an oil-control step.
Is it suitable for sensitive skin?
Often, but it depends on your skin. The list is short, with no fragrance as Mary&May state, no essential oils and no exfoliating acids. Niacinamide can still bother some people, so patch test first.
Can I use it morning and evening?
Yes, the box says to use it morning and evening. In the morning, finish with sunscreen.
